Help for Haiti: How To Help, Leave a Link and I’ll Donate

by Kelly on January 15, 2010

(This post will stay at the top until Monday, so scroll down for all new posts.)

I was so touched this morning to see my fellow bloggers putting forth such an amazing effort in helping raise funds for the victims in Haiti. I have been watching the news coverage the last few days wondering “what can we do”? My efforts and ideas seem to pale in comparison to the disaster that has happened there. But, Crystal put it so well…

“Even if it seems like it’s a drop in the bucket, remember that a bucket of water is made up of that–drops!”

So, with that said, I want to ask you to help in some way.  Whether it is to pray, donate your time, or to donate money.  Did  you know that through Give to Numana, Inc., for only $0.30, you can donate one meal to a starving person in Haiti? Whether you have $2 or $100, or it is a prayer for them, I want to call you to action to help.

One of my favorite verses on giving is in Malachi. God calls us to be generous, and he will bless us beyond our wildest dreams!

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. – Malachi 3:10

Ideas to Help
If you have been following my blog this month you know that we are doing a Pantry Challenge.  One reader had a great idea to use the savings from her Pantry Challenge as a donation to the Haiti Disaster Relief efforts.  Another is collecting her “extras” from couponing to take to her local church that is pulling together a mission trip to help out.  Leave us your ideas in a comment below. Your idea just might call someone else to action!

========================
Want to join in the “Help for Haiti” project? If you have a blog, I’m asking that you write a “Help for Haiti” post sharing what you’re doing to help Haiti. Then leave a direct link to your post below.  For each person who links up below or leaves a comment sharing what they are doing to help the relief effort, whether it is donating money, time, praying, etc… my husband and I will donate $1 to World Vision, up to a maximum of $500.

If you are looking for organizations that are accepting donations check out:

World Vision
Sovereign Grace Ministries

Compassion International
Numana
American Red Cross – You can donate online here or you can text “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

This is so amazing to watch! Do something and blog about it, or leave a comment and then come back here and link up on this post and visit all the other bloggers who link up as well.

**If you know of a place to donate supplies in your area, please leave the city and state and the name of the donation location with any links or contact information.

In the Nashville area - I can personally vouch for Brent Gambrell Ministries - www.brentgambrell.com. They are located at
501 Metroplex Drive, Suite 112 Nashville, Tennessee 37211

They have a heart and a love for the people of Haiti - taking 10-12 mission trips there each year.

You may have seen one of their team members on both the local news and msnbc - Mike and Missy Wilson are trying to adopt a little girl from there - they were just in Haiti last week signing paperwork (which is now lost in the rubble).
They will take physical donations as well as monetary.

We are on a pretty tight budget, but I got a check today from Slimfast for the product recall in December. The whole check is going to Haiti relief. Our needs are met by God's grace, so we will help others in need.

Last night was the first chance I've had since this happened to really pay attention to what happened. The Boston Globe site has a photo essay site- The Big Picture- which always has amazing topics and pictures. The two photo essays were so heartbreaking- I broke down crying and couldn't stop. When I finally got it together, I went to the American Red Cross site and gave til it hurt. I may not be able to do much but at least I can give money. God bless them and us.

I will donate through the Compassion Intl website, I have a sponsored child with them and I like the work they do for poorer countries. I have also supported my cousin who has a heart for Haiti and went on a missions trip a few months ago, Iwill definately be giving her financial support again to go back there. Also, if any of you have ever thought of sponsoring a child, you can go to the compassion international website and sponsor a child from Haiti.
  • We'll be donating to a special contribution at church on Sunday.

Thanks so much! My family has donated money to the American Red Cross. I'm wondering if anyone knows of an organization collecting non-monetary donations in the Franklin area? I have some first aid supplies I'd like to donate. I know that Project C.U.R.E. http://www.projectcure.org/ in Nashville is taking donations but I was wondering if there are any places in Franklin too.
